Restoring the electric canal boat ride by Greg2014-03-31 20:18:13

Saw this discussed in the other thread, so I thought I'd start a new one.

Yes, in the reopening of the Florida Pool video Adrian Jones did say that the canal boats was the next big project for the Gardens. Of course, he also said it would take several million dollars to repair the canals, so it could be a long wait before they return.

I think it would be PERFECT for this attraction to be similar to the Fairy Tale Brook boat ride.

Maybe not theme it exactly the same though... Maybe pirates instead since it's next to Pirates Cove? Hmmm...

I think bringing back the boats would be a GREAT way to introduce the Gardens to youngsters!

I'd love to see the canal boats return as well. They could utilize the canals around back as well and maybe give that a well developed theme since those areas have long been neglected for many years and then keep the front half for the gardens tour. The back areas I'm speaking of are on the other side of the Ethyl Merman Florida Pool by the water park.

I wonder when will restoration on canals happen because I can remember them saying that will be the next big project. and also I wonder when will the canal boats return. and also have there been any changes in gardens like something that says something about gardens history since they have been place on national historical register of historical places or have there been any changes to the Florida shaped pool or any other restoration work that has been done yet.

There has been no restoration work or new signage added to the gardens as of late. I've heard the restoration of the canals would cost almost 2 million dollars...I wouldn't expect the park to tackle something like that while the Lego hotel is being constructed.

If adding a simple sign explaining the significance of the Florida Pool has proven to be too much a burden for the park, I wouldn't expect them to restore the canals anytime soon unless they receive some federal funding to help offset the costs.

I was wondering if there was any changes or any restoration work to the historic botanical gardens yet. Like a historical sign explaining the history of the gardens or any other restoration work been done yet to the historical gardens.

No new restoration work has happened except for a new pump being installed in the Rock and Roll pool. See my post under "Historical Tidbit" for more information.

I think after when they are done doing work on the legoland hotel they might focus on other areas in the cypress gardens like restoring the canals and might bringing back the canal boats or probably putting a title around the Florida shaped Esther Williams swimming pool or working on the Victorian garden area.

if LEGOLAND were to bring back the canal boats that once stroll in the cypress gardens area where do you think they would launch them so people can go on it.

Probably where they originally loaded guests...the dock next to the old Captain Brickbeard's Burger concession. The water level is currently plenty high enough for them to run the boats if they decided to clean out the canals.

now that the LEGOLAND hotel resort is now open i think maybe LEGOlAND should put there focus on other parts of the gardens like restoring the canals or bringing back the canal boats or putting title around the edge of Florida pool.

Florida pool is in bad shape. As of yesterday, 1/21/18, the water was green, broken tiles, and overgrown plants. Gardens look to be in bad shape. Gazebo was closed for refurbishment so that's good. Hopefully improvements come.

I think the should of have been taken better care of and the canals could still use little t.l.c too.

I visited Legoland for the first time over the weekend and though it’s a nice park but there are some issues. To start with I think Kent Buescher did a better job upkeeping the botanical gardens and the mansion area. The gardens are still nice but very lacking as far as flowers are concerned. There used to be a nice variety of colors throughout but now nothing near as nice. The Florida pool was a big letdown. It was full of that nasty green water and there were cracks or poorly patched up areas around the edges. The mansion area used to have beautiful flowers and topiaries but now is just a lawn with ugly barrier fences down near the waterway. Even the waterfall area lacked the colorful flowers that adorned it. Now onto the Lego stuff. Like I said it’s a nice park but for being world class in the theme park industry there’s a lot of neglect. A lot of their Lego character statues were badly faded and weather beaten. How often do they spruce these things up? Mini Land was especially weather beaten. They look great from a distance but up close faded and sometimes parts falling off. Even ride vehicles throughout the park had a look of age to them. I guess I expected this place to look better than it did for the caliber attraction it’s supposed to be. At least the old park when Kent owned it was better maintained. Anybody disagree?

Restoring the canals is a muti-million dollar project and likely never going to happen. In 2014 it was suppose to be the next big project, well it is 2018 and nothing done. It is now a children's park and that kind of money will be better spent on other things in a children's park. Plus from comments they have a hard time keeping up with maintenance on the Legos and rides as it is. Cypress Gardens is gone and what is left of the old gardens is now the best it is going to be. Sad but it is what it is.
