Ride Expansion Spots by Greg2012-03-14 19:19:55

There's at least two spots I can think of where they can add more rides. The spot between Technic and Coastersaurus and the place I call "Expansion 1" over by Kingdoms/Duplo. Of course, depending on how large the Resort becomes, another ride area could fit inside the "Expansion 2" also.

The "Dino Island" section is one that we're missing that's in the Cali park. I think they should fit those attractions into the open area between Coastersaurus and Technic.

The other area they could/should expand (if possible) is the Pirate area. I love the idea of the battling pirate ship ride like they have at California and adding that to the existing Pirate area would make sense, but... Where to put it? Short of tearing down one of the stadiums there isn't much space out there. And plus I don't think they can use that land for rides.

That leaves the area between Kingdoms and Duplo. Assuming that it doesn't become the resort (as some visitor reported), what should it become? I guess they could make it the Sealife or Wax Museum since it's close to the entrance. Any thoughts on that one?

Finally, it's fun again to speculate future expansions.

To me there is just not enough land to build a Sealife or Wax Museum at the current LL site. To allow for the resort and future LL expansion (which all amusment parks must do in the future to keep attracting guests) - the land they have left is probably just enough for that. One big negative with chosing the old CG site for LL was limited land and the lack of undeveloped adjacent land to purchase and expand on. Now if they could get permission to use some of the protected land that currently has little to no historic value (was not even part of the original historic gardens), like the second stadium area or the area between the mansion and the lake, that would make a big difference.

As to what new rides should be added to LL Florida - yes probably they will copy some more rides from other LL parks but not all of them because in the amusment park business always good to have a unique ride(s) at each park. Gives a reason to visit each park if you are in the area.

I think the sinkhole area is something they will eventually consider using. They could fill it in and greatly increase the amount of land available for expansion. It will take a lot of effort, but when there's a shortage of land, it would make it worthwhile.

Another option would be to partially fill in the sinkhole and build an attraction that would fit within the bowl. Perhaps they could make the bottom of the bowl a tar pit with trapped lego dinosaurs and have "mine digger" cars circle around it.

Well, now that we know that Pirate Shores is going in "Expansion 1" here's an updated view of it. (Members can find larger views of the maps in the LegolandPhotos.com Maps gallery.)

And here's the updated map that includes "Expansion 2"

I'd also like to point out a few more places that can be expanded on. This first spot is over at Lego City. Some room out there between CG and Flight/Driving school:

Then there's the spot between Technic and Land of Adventure. On one of the earlier maps this area was reserved for something called "Lego Racers"

Then there's the space that's been used twice before, but is rather awkward... My idea here would be to have a path leading from the top of the area (near the smokers) down to the coaster exit. This path would be a Lego Dinosaur jungle or zoo. Just past that could be the Dino Dig area. Of course they COULD also use this space to make the coaster bigger!

Lastly (and probably most controversial) would be the Miniland expansion. I know it's on part of the protected land, but I think it's okay so long as the area isn't for rides or structures. That part they've already done. But there's a lot of space out there for other Minilands (including Star Wars!)

Again, larger versions of these can be found in the LegolandPhotos.com Maps gallery for members. You can also leave comments here or on the photo itself.

It looks like they're already expanding Miniland. The area adjacent to the New York and California models is walled off and says the attraction is under construction. An employee told me they heard Star Wars was going in this area.

From what I hear, Legoland needs to use the space by the Technic Coaster. However, it's not a ride that's needed but a proper place to eat. Land of Adventure and Lego City don't seem to have an indoor restaurant or even counter service of any kind. The Panini shop by itself is covering people leaving Land of Adventure and Lego City or coming through Imagination and Technic.

(They need another major restaurant to serve the school groups. Apparently the Fun Town Pizza Buffet gets awfully crowded for that very reason.)

I definitely agree with you, shuart24. LEGOLAND needs a major indoor restaurant in that area. Very good idea.

Hmm... What kind of sit down restaurant should they build there? How about a "Homestyle Cookin'" place like Fred's? (Actually that's pretty much what the Pizza place was before!) Or maybe upscale it slightly to a "Steakhouse" style place like Golden Corral? And while I love Chinese food, I don't think that would "wok" there! (Sorry for the bad pun!)

How about a full-service place? I doubt that would work, but I'm hopeful that they will build one in the resort area someday. That would make for a nice evening... Dining on the lake with a stroll through Plantation Gardens! Let's hope they really build that up too!

Here's an article from The Lakeland Ledger talking about the new Pirate Shores area which will go along the lakes edge near Miniland.

I emailed the author today correcting him. He wrote back:

Perhaps I should have made clear where the new attraction will be. Didn't mean to infer that the addition will be adjacent to the water ski cove.

Quite small, and disconnected from the rest of the park proper. Could be a new backstage area, or catering pavilion? Also, it might be connected with a 2nd train for Coastersaurus (transfer track and train shed, also an area to do annual train tear-downs, along with other ride vehicles in the park?)
